Easy, Classic Southern Blackberry Cobbler

This recipe is used for the "Blackberry Cobbler Patchwork" at the North Carolina Blackberry Festiva, with pans of cobblers made by volunteers.

 1 stick butter
 1 cup self-rising flour
 1 pint blackberries (unsweetened,
 1 cup sweet milk (not skim, or buttermilk)
 1 cup sugar
 Optional: may add a 1/4 of a cup of sugar to berries and let them set for about one-half hour before adding to batter)

Preheat oven to 375 degrees.


Melt butter in 8x8 square pan in the oven.


In a separate bowl, combine the flour, sugar and milk together.


After butter has melted in the pan in the oven, take the pan out of the oven and pour the flour, sugar, and milk mixture in the pan.


Distribute the blackberries evenly over the top of the batter. Do not stir.


Place pan back in hot oven and bake for approximately 30 minutes to 1 hour depending on your oven and the number of cobblers you are baking at one time. Your cobbler must be golden brown to be done!
